There are approximately 150 different types of mountain or alpine tea (family name Sideretis here), most of which are found in the Mediterranean region. The majority of these mint teas grow wild, but a few varieties are also cultivated. Rich in essential oils, the flowers, stems, and leaves, when steeped, smell of fresh herbs with a light lemon note. With a slightly fruity, tart, earthy, and spicy flavor, mountain tea can be enjoyed hot or cold, sweetened with a little sugar or honey.
