Rosemary belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is a typical Mediterranean plant. It is commonly found in coastal regions and especially on rocky slopes in the Mediterranean. Its Latin name, "rosmarinus," translates as "dew of the sea."

Today, rosemary is primarily known as a spice. However, rosemary is much more than a tasty culinary herb that pairs well with potatoes. The Greeks and Romans already valued rosemary as a medicinal plant.
